Germans technology tree

The Germans technology tree index links recorded Age of Empires III units, buildings and research to their individual reference pages. It emphasizes entries whose game data directly identifies this faction and is not a complete reconstruction of every shared option in the in-game tree; check unit and technology pages for additional civilization access.

Civilization roster and research

The lists are grouped into units, buildings and technologies, then organized by the Age recorded in the game data. Shared options can appear in more than one civilization index; inclusion does not mean an item is unique. Follow an entry to check its cost, production or research site, prerequisites, counters and version band. A Home City Card, map alliance or scenario rule may change access, so this list is not a fixed build order.

Scope and availability

Scope: Age of Empires III civilization content. This index reflects matching entries in the saved game-fact records; each linked page gives its own version, Age and access conditions.

How to read the tree

Use the tree when planning an Age-up, Home City deck or response to an opponent. Find the unit line or upgrade that answers the immediate matchup, then check its entry for exact values and access rules. Map, mode, shipments, patch and edition determine which recorded options are useful in a particular match.

Check the entry for version and prerequisites

An index can include options recorded across multiple Age of Empires III releases. Older faction names, card unlocks, research prerequisites and campaign-only rules can change availability. Check the linked page’s version band and conditions before applying an option to a specific game.

Settler Wagons and shipments drive the economy

Germans begin with three Settler Wagons, which gather faster than ordinary Settlers but use two population each. Protecting those starting workers matters because losing a wagon removes a large share of the opening economy. German Home City shipments also add Uhlans with most non-team deliveries from the Commerce Age onward; the extra cavalry makes a shipment useful for both its printed cargo and military pressure, while Germany needs more Experience to earn shipments. Check the Settler Wagon, Uhlan and Home City Card entries together when planning the opening, and account for population space before sending a shipment that adds units.

Build the army around complementary roles

The listed German roster has distinct jobs: Uhlans provide fast heavy cavalry, Doppelsöldners bring a close-range infantry attack, Skirmishers and Landwehr provide ranged pressure, and War Wagons add a more durable ranged-cavalry line. These units do not replace one another; choose the force for the opponent’s unit classes and keep cavalry away from prepared anti-cavalry troops. German shipment rewards can create an early Uhlan group without a Stable queue, while the other lines still need their own access and resources. The Mercenary Camp and Wallenstein’s Contracts point to an additional late-game path, but mercenaries require substantial Coin and should be supported by an economy that can sustain them.

Treat this index as a roster guide, not a complete build order

The age-grouped lists collect game-fact entries and include campaign, card and revolution access where recorded. Some options shown under a civilization are conditional: South Africa’s War Wagon path, for example, is a revolution rather than ordinary German production. The list also contains only a subset of Germany’s full units and upgrades, so use the linked German civilization page and individual entries to check wider access, costs and prerequisites. A Home City shipment or selected revolution can alter the standard roster; neither should be assumed available in every match.
